Kiwanis 11, SDC 4 SOMERSET - Game 1 of the Somerset Little League baseball championship series went to Kiwanis on Sunday.

The Businessmen finished the tourney with a documentation of 1-4 after falling to Wheeling 11-1 and Garrett County 9-8. In the Wheeling game, Somerset managed only Three hits with singles by Mitch Merryman, Zach Helsley and Devin Pritts. Helsley drove in Merryman for Somerset’s lone run.
Only four of Wheeling’s 11 runs were earned as the Businessmen committed six errors. The offense came teeming against Garrett County as Helsley led the speed with two hits and Three RBIs. Austin Sleek doubled twice and scored two runs. Max Marker and Pat Blough both hit safely twice.

Jackie Stanko, Aubrey Moss and Rebekah Garrett led North Star’s offense with two hits apiece. Meyersdale’s Kaylin McKenzie nailed a People’s home run. Kern Bros. 16, PH 4 SOMERSET - Cole Maranowski came through at the coat with two singles, a twin and six RBIs as Kern Brothers Lumber Advanced to the Somerset Major League baseball championship Series with a 16-4 take First prize over Pizza Hut on Sunday.
Nathan Hainzer had two hits, including a bent over and Three runs batted in for the victors. Cejay Walker nailed an Inside-the-park stamping-ground Effect while Cooper Baker and Ian Shrift each added mean hits. Maranowski, Shrift and Baker combined efforts on the mound. Jayson Funa powered Pizza Hut with two hits while Shane Roberts and Elijah Breegle both singled.
Kern Brothers will unhampered the best-of-3 championship Series against Mick’s Custom Painting on Tuesday. Berlin II sweeps DH BERLIN % Berlin II swept Farmington 12-2 and 7-4 Saturday in Junior Legion baseball. Derek Coughenour and Kirk Davis combined for the hummock bring home the bacon with 10 hits.
Alex Coleman tripled and doubled. Davis went 4-for-6 and Trace Heffner batted 3-for-6 with a double. Coughenour added Three hits while Kyle Cooney, Jacob Craig and Zac Cooney also had hits for Berlin. Farmington was led by Dillion Jackson with a stand-in and Single.
Matt Hart and Garret Fox added two hits in the Series. Ryan Stephens tripled for the visiting body and Dominic Laurita singled. With the wins, Berlin II clinched the No. 1 sow for the Southern Division of the Somerset County Junior Legion Baseball League. Playoffs begin next weekend.
Cooney and Davis combined efforts on the swell to set-back the Meyersdale Raiders 8-5 in a courageous played matrix Wednesday. Coughenour contributed two hits. Heffner tripled and Blake Miller doubled for Berlin II. Also contributing hits in the be the Victor were Davis, Coleman and Craig.

Summer basketball in league SOMERSET - John Critchfield’s double-double of 16 points and 19 rebounds led Somerset B to a 52-50 gain a victory over Shade on Saturday in Week 2 of the Somerset Trust Company Boys Junior High Summer Basketball League. Marcus Hart and Mike VanLenten scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, for Somerset B. Shade’s Chase Kiser scored a game-high 24 points.
Sam Vought and Jake Heiple poured in 11 points each as Somerset 7th held off Meyersdale 53-41. Cole Clark netted 12 points and Connor Christner added 11 for the Red Raiders. Ross Dirienzo struck for 17 points as Somerset A Stopped Shanksville 64-17. The Vikings were led by Tanner Ferko and Baily Blackburn, who combined for nine points.
